Anthurium care

⏩ The front of an east-facing window, morning sun filtering through the window curtain, and a humid, breezy environment are the environmental requirements that anthuriums like the most. You should protect your plant from indoor air when it's cold below 15 degrees or hot above 25 degrees.
What temperature does an anthurium like?
⏩ Anthurium growth is fastest at a minimum temperature of 20 degrees at night and a maximum of 28 degrees during the day. At lower temperatures, its development slows down as the temperature drops. In winter, in houses that are not well heated, it can continue to grow slowly as long as it receives sun and the temperature does not drop below 10 degrees for a long time. Frost can kill the plant. At temperatures above 32 degrees, damage to the leaves and flowers can occur; to prevent this, humidity needs to increase significantly as the temperature rises.
How can we maintain constant anthurium humidity?
⏩ Many large stones are placed in a large tray. It is filled with water to a level that does not cover the stones, and the pot is placed on top. The bottom of the pot should not touch the water. The stones that are half-submerged in the water act as an automatic device to evaporate according to the temperature. Water should be sprayed on the anthurium leaves from time to time (above 25 degrees and every evening). If you want to grow anthuriums more professionally and quickly, make sure that the air humidity where they are is at least 85% throughout the day and create a breeze with a fan.
Does anthurium need sun?
⏩ Anthurium cannot bloom without seeing the sun. Anthuriums should receive about 4 hours of sun a day, but since direct sun would damage them, the sun must filter through the window curtain and reach the plant. Filtered sun does not harm the flowers; a flower can last several weeks (up to two months without wilting). If your anthurium gets enough sun and the soil is nutritious, it will grow faster in these conditions, the flowers will be large, and it will never run out of flowers. Between late November and late February, the sun should always reach it directly.
⏩ It is good to let the anthurium rest every few years. You can let it rest in a cool (8-10 degrees), sunless but bright room from mid-November to mid-January. During this period, watering should be done when the soil dries out to three-fifths. Anthurium wants aerated soil enriched with natural organic matter. Good garden soil mixed with humus, rotten leaves, rotten pieces of bark and tree branches, pumice, and a little rotten cow manure is the best soil mix for anthuriums. (An example of soil mix: 2 parts good garden soil + 2 parts pumice + 1 part cow manure + 1 part rotten leaves + 1 part chestnut soil)
⏩ Pumice and chestnut soil can be found in nurseries. Pumice is necessary to provide an aerated environment for the roots. Perlite cannot replace it. If you are going to buy good quality prepared soil, it would be much better if you add a quarter of pumice.
How should anthurium soil care be?
⏩ It is not necessary to change the pot unless the anthurium roots multiply, but you should change the soil every 3 years in April. If it grows in soil rich in organic matter, the anthurium does not need any extra nutrients for the first two years. The third year, from May to October, you can give it orchid food once a month. The following year, it is necessary to renew the soil in April.
⏩ Also, it would be good to give it foliar feed. Anthuriums absorb and store various nutrients and minerals with their leaves in their natural environment. Foliar feeding is therefore a beneficial supplement. Also, do not cut leaves that you don't like. Even if they turn yellow, they should not be cut until they rot; you should wait for them to fall off on their own.
⏩ You should give the orchid food with a slightly reduced dose. But without wetting the leaves, spray once so that the particles settle on the leaves and stems. If your anthurium does not grow fast, do it once a week, no more. You can give it food both from the soil and from the leaf at the same time; it will not harm it.
⏩ If the flowers lose their vitality and are heading towards forming seeds, cut them immediately from the tip of the stem and discard them, otherwise they will slow down the plant's development. Do not cut the stem, let it dry on its own.
How should anthurium be watered?
⏩ You should water with lime-free water (with a neutral pH degree) and at room temperature. Water again when you feel the soil moisture has gone by touching it with your hand. You should adjust how often to water this way. In cool resting periods, water when the soil is half dry. As with all plants, water that filters out of the pot should not be reabsorbed by the soil. If it falls below the watering balance, serious damage to the leaves and roots will occur. If you overdo it, this time there may be loss of health, yellowing, and rot in the leaves and roots.
How is anthurium propagated?
⏩ If it produces offspring from the root, these are separated for propagation from June 15 until late summer. If there are no offspring and the stem of your anthurium has grown a bit, cut it near the bottom and plant it in a separate pot. You should do this when the summer heat begins. June 15 and after is a good time. It will root in a short time, it will start to grow in a month and a half at most. The root you cut gives at least one shoot, that grows faster. The propagation medium should be greater during the rooting time.
